This will be UCC’s first time out this season while WIT have already suffered a nine point defeat at the hands of UL and will not want to suffer a second consecutive defeat inside seven days.  Both teams will field unfamiliar teams compared to last year with UCC missing five of their defensive line including 2011 All Star Susan Earner, Cork star Orla Cotter and Irish Hockey Player Miriam Crowley, WIT are without former captain Ann Dalton and Stacey Redmond while Katie Power continues to make her way back from a serious knee injury.  WIT will be relying on Katrina Parrock to lead their attack while UCC under the stewardship of Shirley Maloney will be hoping that the Mackey twins will bring their superb club form into the college year.  It promises to be a close game but home advantage could swing it for the Cork University.

NUIG –v- CIT
NUIG

Cork IT travel to Galway tonight to play 2011 Ashbourne Shield winners NUIG.  Both teams have already suffered a defeat to the impressive DCU and will be hoping to use this match to gauge the strength and depth of their respective panels.  NUIG will be looking to make a breakthrough in the Ashbourne Cup this year with the experienced Roisin Connaught and Chloe Morey among their players.  Cork IT will be relying on Erin Corkery to drive them forward.  CIT play UUJ in the Ashbourne Qualifier in three weeks and will want to pick themselves up from their league defeat and gather some momentum going into the qualifier.  NUIG should prove to strong for the Cork outfit but will need to work hard against and talented and hard working CIT team.
