ASHBOURNE CUP – ROUND 2 FIXTURES

1st February 2012

University of Limerick -v- Waterford Institute of Technology, University of Limerick 2pm, Referee Mike O'Connor

University College Dublin -v- Univeristy of Ulster Jordanstown, UCD, 5pm, Referee Karl O'Brien

UL –v- WIT

UL will hope to become the first team to defeat WIT in three years tomorrow when they welcome them to Limerick.  UL made an big impression this season when they defeated both of last year’s Ashbourne Cup finalists WIT and UCC.  Inspired by the talented Linda and Lisa Bolger UL could prove to be the surprise package in this year’s competition.  Despite losing last year’s winning captain Ann Dalton and Karen Kelly, WIT still remain very strong and have the bonus of welcoming back captain Katie Power who has returned to full fitness after a long injury lay off.  UL will need to keep a close eye on Katrina Parrock who could potentially win the game for WIT.  If WIT are victorious they will go through to the Ashbourne Cup semi finals while UL will fight it out with NUIG for second place in the group.

VERDICT: WIT’s experience to prove to strong for UL

UCD –v- UUJ

It’s crunch time for UCD in the Ashbourne Cup group stages this week and only a win against UUJ will keep their Cup hopes alive this year.  After a defeat against 2011 finalists last week, UCD now welcome Ulster kingpins UUJ to Dublin in what should be an enthralling encounter.  UUJ have already recorded a four point victory over UCD in the league and will be hoping to pile further misery on the Dublin outfit with a win tomorrow.  Captained by Down’s Sara Louise Carr, UUJ can boast some of the finest names in Ulster Camogie with Antrims Shannon Graham and Derry’s Karen Kielt in their side.  UCD however have Dublins’ Kate McDonald and Kilkennys’ Leann Fennelly as well as Galway star Sandra Tannion.  UUJ have already reached the Division 1 Final this year and under the management of Aisling Jackson have began to some potential, however, UCD will not want to suffer a second defeat at the hands of UUJ this year and will be hoping that the home advantage will stand by them.

VERDICT: UCD to win by the narrowest of margins.
