NUI Maynooth vs Athlone IT

The first round of the Purcell Cup qualifying took place with NUI Maynooth playing at home versus Athlone IT. Travelling
across the country, Athlone IT took to a wet misty pitch and the ball was thrown in at 6pm.
From the onset, you could feel an exciting match was in the making. Each team began with a strong appetite which developed with a number of points going over the Athlone cross-bar. Athlone began is rise their head and Maynooth returned with numerous points and answered with a goal, from a strong forward outfit of Ailsa Hughes, Claire Coffey, Claire Kennedy and Aisling Curtis.
Neither team gave up the battle but Maynooth emerged victorious. NUI Maynooth will now play DIT in the second round of the Group B Purcell Play-Offs next week. Athlone IT following suit the week after.
